Gaslighting is Not The Same as Lying
Lying is a defense mechanism some use to avoid accountability but it isn’t necessarily a psychological attack on another person’s mind.
Lying and gaslighting are tools that narcissists use in all relationships, but lying is not the same thing as gaslighting.
Lying is telling a deliberate non-truth.
Gaslighting can sound like this:
“I never said that.”
“You need help.”
“You must have memory problems.”
“So you believe your friends over me?”
To understand the difference between a liar and a gaslighter let's first explore what gaslighting is and what it is not.
What is Gaslighting?
Gaslighting is one of those words that lots of people on the internet are using but most are not using correctly.
Gaslighting is a systematic grooming process that is employed until a victim is completely under the control of their abuser. It is emotional and psychological abuse designed to make the victim doubt themselves and only believe the abuser.
