The Discard is Inevitable
When a narcissist discards you, it’s often because you dared to see them for who they really are.
Narcissists have trouble maintaining long-term relationships and they tend to use people to prop up their sense of self. They will discard the entire relationship if they find you can no longer be controlled. Often it happens after you have caught them lying. Since a narcissist is committed to not taking responsibility, they will leave rather than allow you to rip off their mask.
Narcissists may discard you for various reasons. These reasons are rooted in their own egocentric and manipulative nature. Even if the relationship seemed caring, committed, and loving initially, narcissists are complex and twisted individuals. The reasons for their behavior are not always clear or coherent.
In this article, I discuss two core reasons the discard happens and why it is inevitable.
A Coping Mechanism
Narcissists have extreme fight-or-flight reflexes, and when they choose flight, they run hard and fast. When their lies are exposed and their false identity is threatened, this becomes too much for them and they are driven to run for their very survival.
