Victim or Villian?

It sounds completely absurd to think that a narcissist could believe they are a victim, yet this is a hallmark of NPD. You may be confused by this when your narcissistic partner projects their bad behavior onto you and tells you that you have hurt them and that is why they screamed at you or hit you.

How could they actually believe they are a victim after such egregious behavior?

Aren’t narcissists individuals with a grandiose sense of self and an unquenchable need for power? Is it just a form of manipulation? Are they doing it on purpose?

Narcissists are completely blind to their behaviors and how they affect others. They cannot even “see it” even when you point it out to them.

This is why they feel attacked when you contradict them or tell them they’ve done something wrong. Reality just doesn’t align with the delusional version they have of themselves in their head.

Their penchant for low introspection combined with their exaggerated sense of superiority leaves them unable to see how a situation doesn’t fit their perspective.

As a result, their only defense is to play the victim.
