Why You Think You’re The Narcissist
Have you ever wondered why the narcissist abuses and humiliates you and then claims you are the “real” narcissist? They could say fifty nasty things and you tell them to “fuck off!” after being provoked, you suddenly become an out-of-control child and an abuser.
During my abuser's verbal attacks, he would lie and mischaracterize what was going on in an attempt to keep the upper hand, conveniently forgetting all the wicked things he did.
Why do narcissists claim to be the real victims when any impartial observer could see that they are abusive?
Narcissists present themselves to the world as perfect and always right. They wear this false mask in order to avoid feeling shame about their defects. They will shift the criticism of their bad behavior onto their partners in an attempt to be seen as perfect and blameless.
Narcissists need to portray themselves in this false way because they do not have whole object relations. They see everyone, including themselves, as “all good” or “all bad.” In the narcissist’s world, all-good equals pure, special, omnipotent, and never wrong. All-bad equals worthless, despicable, defective, and wrong.
